January Snows

I'm huddled by the radiator, gazing in a daydream at the snowy garden outside. Puffs of smoke ghosting out of red chimneys. Blackbirds scratching in pots covered in icy mulch. The sky endless dirty white.

With pen in hand I start to lose myself in old Celtic melodies and hear the harsh rasping cry of crows. A tinkle of icicles dripping on cold stone. Frozen cobwebs strung between branches and hedges... Bejewelled necklaces for the fae folk of winter.

The writing for my new Winter-themed CD is under way and I feel happily uneasy and agitated with nervous energy and excitement... Hoping that my new creations will take root and flourish, and grow like tenacious, frosty ivy.

Silence above.

A puff of painful breath.

White crunching under foot and hoof.

The robin on the branch

Puffed up and ruffled, blood-like.

The whole world seems to have stopped to look up at the

dirty swan-feather and cygnet-down sky.

To listen

As the fluffy white falls and cloaks silently.

Enjoy the snow lovelies, and stay warm and safe. To my friends and family in Australia, where it is above 40 degrees Celsius right now in many areas, I send you cooling wishes and I hope for rain for you, to put the bush fires out,

Love, blessings and sparkles,
